I liked Herbie as a kid too.

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) -- Hot the heels of the comedy "Taxi," writers
Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant have landed a deal from the Walt Disney
Co. to pen the remake of "Herbie the Love Bug." Reportedly, the much-coveted
deal comes close to the seven-figure mark.

The original "Love Bug" starred Dean Jones, Michele Lee and Buddy Hackett
and was released in 1968. The formula proved a hit and spawned several
sequels including, "Herbie Rides Again" and "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project has been in development for
years, with various versions penned by such scribes as writing team Blake
Snyder and Colby Carr as well as David Berenbaum. Apparently the studio is
scrapping all previous incarnations of the project to pick up the Lennon and
Garant take, which puts Herbie in the world of NASCAR.

"Taxi," currently in production in Los Angeles, stars Queen Latifah and
Jimmy Fallon for director Tim Story. Queen plays a cab driver to Fallon's
rookie cop and is expected to be released sometime in 2004.
