Halloween In U.S. From 1921
While the observance of Halloween dates back from the dark ages, in the United States, the first recorded instance of a Halloween celebration occurred in Anoka, Minn., in 1921. The U.S. Census estimates the potential number of "trick-or-treaters," ages 5 to 14, is about 41 million, down about 40,000 from 2000. There are more than 1,000 U.S. manufacturers of chocolate and cocoa products that shipped $12 billion worth of chocolate goods in 2001, much of it for Halloween. A large portion of the 24 pounds of candy consumed per person a year is believed to be eaten by children on and during the days immediately following Halloween.
