Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans
http://www.horatioalger.com/

"Founded in 1947, the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans continues to fulfill its mission of honoring the achievements of outstanding individuals in our society who have succeeded in spite of adversity and of encouraging young people to pursue their dreams through higher education." You'll find 'pillars of industry, government leaders, champions of sport and entertainment, innovators and entrepreneurs, healers, teachers, artists, and writers' who are members of this group, each individual an example of personal achievement gained through their own perseverance and hard work. The Society and each member seek to "help young people to understand and value the opportunities presented by America's free enterprise system." Take some time to browse; pick your favorite honoree or collection of special people who exemplify the American way of life and let them serve as your own personal inspiration. Additionally the Society awards college scholarships so if you're on the higher education trail, you certainly want to become familiar with this group!
