Ben Franklin: "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt, they have more need of masters." -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Charles Sent: Friday, October 24, 2003 12:28 PM To: 'The Sandbox Discussion List' Subject: RE: [Sndbox] FW: Should voters decide if Congress should get a raise? Absolutely. In fact, I think congressional salary should be in proportion to the mean income of the region. For example, if the average family makes $36k a year in a voting district, then that representative or senator shouldn't make a disproportionate salary to the people he represents. Why should a senator from FL make $150k when the people he represents only make $30K a year? That's robbing from them to increase his salary. ________________________________ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Charles Sent: Friday, October 24, 2003 1:25 PM To: Charles Subject: [Sndbox] FW: Should voters decide if Congress should get a raise? Here's Bill Press' response: "We have no national referendum, allowing voters to decide whether Congress should get a pay raise. That is for members of Congress to decide for themselves. But for them to vote themselves a pay raise when there are 9 million Americans out of a job - is obscene." Here's what some of you said: "I don't think those tapes should be seen by the public at this late date. They will be seen by young people who may think they are cool and may want to copycat."- Jane "I am glad these tapes the Columbine students responsible for the murders and injury of so many people were released. It is time America faces up to the fact many of your middle and upper class kids are totally out of hand and are involved in many destructive and violent activities." -Marian, Missouri ADVERTISEMENT MSNBC Weblog Central <http://g.msn.com/0NL64091/1148> Buchanan and Press Live at 6 p.m. ET Coming up Tonight: 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and 'Kill Bill'...Two top grossing movies, but has Hollywood's love of gore gone too far?
