But obviously not illegal for the feds.

That, my friend, is the definition of a pyramid scheme.  (or a ponzi scheme) Something that is illegal in all 50 states.

I feel your pain, David...

But.... the people who are getting it, can't keep getting it, unless you keep paying it....

I agree.... tough row to hoe though.... The problem is people getting the entitlements
get to vote too... It is against human nature for people to vote to get less money.

So?  Phase it out.  Change hurts.  Welfare of all types is sapping this country of productivity.  Socialism (which is what SS and welfare is) is destroying the European countries.  We are not far behind.

The problem is that if you did that the old folk relying on SS right now would run out of money.

No politician could get elected on that platform. Too many old folks vote.

But what if I wanted to put my money in a stock issue, or a mutual fund.  It's *MY* money to start with, why should the gvt. be able to say I have to put it in their bank account?  After all, who earned the money to start with?

Ok, I like that.  You know why it won't work?  Because seniors today that retire at 62-65 will get much more than they paid in.  That's why the system is going broke.  I don't think the gvt. should be involved in pensions at all.  Let the people take that 13% taken out of their checks for FICA and invest it where they want to.  If they spend the money and don't save it, then that's their problem when they get old.

SS has a 2% return on investment.  A good investment account can give you a 7% return in a bad year, and as much as 30-40% in a good year.  Why should the gvt. do the investing?  It's obvious they are not smart enough to do a good job.

which is why the bank thing works. espescially if its an intrest bearing account________________________________
