Maybe to relieve some immediate engorgement. But seriously, if she would have pumped often enough..her body would have just kept on producing it thinking the baby needed it.

Could be, I don't doubt it. But if that's the case, why did the doctors give her the pump and tell her to do it? lol

I wasn't arguing..just giving my unbiased POV. I have done both.
As for your mom:
<
I also watched my mother as I said, and because my brother wouldn't breast feed and she didn't take something to dry it up ahead of time she had to pump it to get rid of it. And then she was still sore alot of the time. >
Actually, you don't need to take anything to dry up the milk. If there isn't a baby nursing, then your body will stop producing it on it's own. But continuing to pump it was making her body think it needed to produce more. That's probably why she was still sore and it probably took longer.
Just some info...

I wasn't argueing it wasn't a good option, even a better one for some. I was pointing out, that bottle feeding *can* be just as easy. And in some cases, easier. Some folks aren't comfortable doing it in public, and for those....bottle feeding is easier. We happened to fall in that catagory. lol Wasn't the only reason by far we choose bottle feeding, but I can think of numerous situations where bottle feeding was easier for *us*. Church being one.....

And yes, I know they have pumps etc so  you can bottle it for stuff like that. But then, IMO it's just as much hassle as formula. lol As I said before, to each his own....but for us, formula was the best solution. :)

I also watched my mother as I said, and because my brother wouldn't breast feed and she didn't take something to dry it up ahead of time she had to pump it to get rid of it. And then she was still sore alot of the time. So while it might be easier and better for some, that certainly isn't always the case. That's all I was saying... You asked what hassle, those would be a few. :)

Sorry Greg, but I formula/bottle fed 3 of my 4 kids and I breastfed 1 of my 4. The breastfeeding was waaaay easier. But, I am simply going by my experience since I did do both. Oh and for the record...I was the bottle feeding queen advocate  for years. I would have argued anyone that tried to convince me breastfeeding was easier or better.
But then once I did it myself, there was no comparison. It's easier, cheaper, and healthier.
I'm not knocking you or anybody...otherwise I'd have to knock myself too..LOL
But I am glad I finally tried it. It was the best and I recommend it to any mother to at least try.
