LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - If the early phases of the development process are any indication, the fall of 2004 could be known as the Season of Teenage Sexuality. ABC has given a script commitment to "Doing It," a drama project from Stu Bloomberg, a former ABC entertainment president, and Touchstone TV-based producer Francie Calfo.
The series will be based on the controversial British novel of the same name by Melvin Burgess. Since its publication in the United Kingdom early this spring, Burgess has come under some fire for aiming his coming-of-age novel about three boys and their burgeoning sex lives at a young adult readers. While some groups have attacked the book as too graphic for its audience, others have praised it as an unflinching and honest depiction. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Freaks and Geeks" alums Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs are at work on scripting the pilot and will join Bloomberg and Calfo as executive producers. Bloomberg is involved in several Touchstone TV projects for ABC, including a mob drama from "Pirates of the Caribbean" scribe Stuart Beattie and a police drama from Robert and Michelle King. Calfo is also involved with both projects. Last week, FOX gave a script commitment to an untitled teen sex drama from "7th Heaven" creator Brenda Hampton. Given that some critics are already arguing that the failure of shows like FOX's "Skin" suggests that viewers are shying away from sexually bold primetime entries, it will be interesting to see if any of these speculative projects make it onto the networks' fall schedules. ________________________________ Changes to your subscription (unsubs, nomail, digest) can be made by going to http://sandboxmail.net/mailman/listinfo/sndbox_sandboxmail.net
