The Alien Quadrilogy on DVD

The Alien Quadrilogy is a stocking-bursting collection; it's the
ultimate Alien presentation to date with 9 discs and over 45 hours of
previously unseen material. The first film, Ridley Scott's Alien, is
presented in the original version or the recently released director's
cut. James Cameron's Aliens is available for the first time on DVD as it
was shown theatrically, with the special extended edition available too.
Alien 3 has more than 30 minutes of additional footage and Alien
Resurrection has a new alternate opening and ending. Each disc has its
own companion disc as well, with interviews and special features (such
as a multi-angle study of the "chest burster" sequence from Alien) and
much, much more.

IMDb MOVIE OF THE DAY

Terrence McNally, who wrote the stage play Frankie and Johnny in the
Clair de Lune, also wrote this film adaptation and shortened the title
to Frankie and Johnny, adding a few characters and moving the action of
the story from the tiny diner out into the New York neighborhoods and
streets that inspired the unique personalities of the characters in the
first place. Michelle Pfeiffer is Frankie, a tired, emotionally
reclusive waitress at a busy Greek diner, a socially stale environment
that is immediately stirred by the arrival of the confident ex-con chef
Johnny (Al Pacino), who has one eye firmly fixed on making a better life
for himself, and the other on Frankie. While Johnny's persistent pursuit
of Frankie is the crux of the film, the subtlest joys are found in the
brief glimpses into the solitary lives of coworkers and friends around
them, especially the brassy Cora (Kate Nelligan) and the resigned Nedda
(Jane Morris). Once you manage to move beyond the fact that Pfeiffer and
Pacino have been cast as the supposedly lovelorn, unattractive,
middle-aged characters, you'll find a slightly sweetened examination of
love, the barriers people create for themselves, and the inexplicable
resilience of those who keep searching for something better even after
having experienced the worst that life has to offer. - Heather Campbell
