'Monster' Ball for Charlize Theron
Looks as if Charlize Theron has had an extreme makeover in reverse.
The characteristically glam actress got all gussied down for her latest
role in the movie "Monster."
Theron has appeared in films such as "15 Minutes" and "The Italian Job" in
typical Hollywood splendor. But in preparation for the "Monster" gig, she
morphed from a catwalk-ready model to a lesbian plus-sized multiple murderer.
In the flick, she takes on the character of Aileen Wuornos, a serial killer
who was removed from society via the death penalty in October 2002. Theron's
willingness to accommodate the physical demands of the role and immersion into
character are paying off. She has received accolades from every corner, is up
for a Golden Globe and is the focus of Oscar buzz.
But Theron is also in the running for liberal quote of the month. She
recently gave a revealing look at the cockeyed worldview so many folks in the
industry embrace.
In discussing the film on "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart asked Theron to
comment on whether Wuornos was "just a vicious psychopath."
Theron responded, "Well, there was a lot of gray in her story ... it's very
easy in our society to kind of label people like her...."
When Stewart reminded Theron that Wuornos "killed seven people," the
actress floated a twisted gem of the left. She said, "No, and I don't want to
make excuses for that ... she did horrendous things, terrible things, and
we're not trying to justify them or make excuses for them at all. But ... a
lot of times the word 'evil' gets misused, or 'crazy' or 'psychopath,' and I
think that our human nature is just much more complex than that. And I think
it's a cop-out ... an easy thing to say, kind of condemn the person...."
In his understated style, Stewart quipped: "She's not evil. She's not
crazy. She was, let's say - pensive."
The Left Coast Report speculates that Theron's comments could mean that the
moral dumbing down of Hollywood has reached critical mass.
