"Marple Township is the pornography capital of Delaware County," says Whoriskey. About 75 residents, ranging from teenagers to senior citizens, went to St. Pius X church to hear Whoriskey and others speak about the appropriateness of sexual instruction books, such as "Sex Toys 101: A Playfully Uninhibited Guide". Conducted by Kathy Coll, founder and president of the Pro-Life Coalition, headquartered in Havertown, she stated that this was "a community problem." Whoriskey, of Glen Mills, explained how when looking for a book on the Atkins diet, he discovered it adjacent to several recently purchased volumes on sexual instruction. He then checked out seven of the books, which he subsequently showed to the Marple Board of Commissioners, local clergy and legislators. When informed by Whoriskey at a meeting last month, Commissioner John Capuzzi stated that he was not aware of the books and that he was offended, but that the board was not going to "censor them." Marple attorney Tom Paschos, and a family friend of Coll's, stated how the issue is, "not about censorship but about how to prohibit pornography and protect minors." Sue Brinkman, a writer for the Catholic and Standard Times, told the audience how pornography is an epidemic problem in libraries." Coll asked the audience to call their commissioners and to attend township commissioners and library meetings. Coll even urged people to consider not donating to the library in protest. The next Marple Commissioner meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. | ||||||
