Theater searching for young, local talent
Last update: 24 January 2004 |
DAYTONA BEACH -- Seaside Music Theater is looking for
Central Florida actresses to play Annie and her six orphan friends in this
summer's production of "Annie."
And, because the roles are all for young girls, that means would-be
stars who look about 5 to about 12 will be considered -- with or without
acting experience, said Jerry Lapidus, Seaside's company manager.
"We are looking for kids who have big personalities and are fun to be
with, who, most importantly, can keep up with the rigorous rehearsal and
performance schedule required by a professional theater of this
magnitude," he said.
So, besides a pleasant singing voice, ability to move onstage and
willingness to take direction from the show's director, Donna Drake,
actresses 5 and older will need a "stage mother" -- or father, sister,
brother or friend -- to get them to the theater for three weeks of
rehearsals and 20 performances, between May 25 and June 27, he said.
Auditions for the roles are set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 31 at SMT
Downtown, 176 N. Beach St.
Girls trying out will be asked to sing two songs that are different
from each other, to show their range, to recite a poem or give a speech
they have memorized and follow dance steps. They'll need to make an
audition appointment with Lapidus by calling (386) 681-2795.
Seaside is looking for qualities that can't be taught in acting classes
-- freshness, spontaneity and "a natural ability to light up a room," said
Drake.
