As it claimed, tomcat 5 has improvements on tomcat 4.1 in many ways. Also it implemented the Servlet 2.4 and JSP2.0 instead of tomcat 4.1 implementation of Servlet 2.3 and JSP 1.2. See detail at http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/index.html.
However, since SOAP 2.3.1 was released almost 2 years ago when tomcat 5 was not born. My concern is whether SOAP 2.3.1 works better with tomcat 5 or with old tomcat 4.1.x versions. There might be compatibility problems. On the other hand, I may take a look at AXIS vs. tomcat 5.
One feature we use SOAP 2.3.1 is its messageing services(we call remote messagerouter instead of rpcrouter). I don't know if AXIS still keep this feature or not.

Daniel,
I'm very new to SOAP and have only developed a few small services, but they're all running on Tomcat 5.

Subject: SOAP2.3.1 on Tomcat 5
We are running SOAP 2.3.1 on Tomcat 4.1.27 right now. But we are worrying about performance issues. Heard that tomcat 5 has better performance. Has anyone had the experience running SOAP 2.3.1 on tomcat 5?
TIA,
