Hello Len,
The safest way and best way means having to take a walk.
Set up the winch and turn around on a field or park or big backyard just
as you would at the flying field.
Tie the line to the spool and walk up to turn-around put the line thru,
walk back to the winch tie on a chute and ring.
Connect a model to the ring, launch and retrieve in the normal manner.
After you've finished flying retrieve remaining line.
Honestly it is the best way!! :)
As you've found out already doing it in a small area is not a good idea.
Too much pain potential!!
