Ok, I'll give the bad news first. For those who were there, the video of the impact of the powered Mongo Jr at all of 8 lbs impacting the Piper Cub was - played either slow-mo or in real-time - well, the ONLY time your going to have seen it. Unfortunately, when we moved from the S bank to the W bank, I disconnected the battery from the TV/VCR, and when it gets plugged back in, the VCR cycles - typically rewinding the tape 10-30 seconds, and yes (damnation!) it got overwritten by the next flight! I know it does this, and I usually check and play back the tape of the last few seconds after every flight to reset the record point. I thought I did that after the move - or maybe it was becuz there was no video immediately after the crash that threw me off. Whatever, I screwed the pooch. It's gone. *sigh* Well, anyway, I have about 30 minutes of video, everything from a few seconds of inverted flight, a bunch of passes through the combat action (ok, I admit it! - this is just too much fun to pass up, even though I know I'm like a sledgehammer swinging at foamies) to a fly around of the reservoir at about 1500'. SOOOOooo, if I can appease any disappointed souls by digitizing some of that and posting it, I will. Matt and the Oregon folks also captured the crash from the ground, tho I haven't seen the footage. I'll be happy to digitize it and post as well. Maybe I should stick to fly-overs/arounds of the combat action... Extreme thanks to all the great guys and kids who immediately came down the hill to find the pieces - they had the bats, servo, and camera rounded up in less than 5 minutes! My only damage was a broken wire to the motor controller - fixed and ready to fly again in less than 15 minutes (man ya gotta love these Mongo Jrs...) - since Mike is (one of?) the creators of the Mongo Jr - how do you spell irony? I hope the damage wasn't too bad - Mike, let me know what I can do to make it up to you... I had a total blast! The fly around of the reservoir I did at altitude on fly-by-video - it's funny, I can always tell on the video when I've switched to fly-by-video - the attitude adjustments get MUCH smoother. Everything from the tiny B-52 powered by B-2 motors on up to the myriad of Mongo Jr's (I don't think I've ever seen more Mongo Jr's in one place before - there must have been 15!) I brought with me a pile of different colors of rc-neon tubing (electroluminescent tubing) w/ transformers and a box of 9V batteries, in the hopes we'd have wind for night flights, but no soap. Maybe next month... And Mike, what IS the scoop on this teeny super duper e-wing? -- Tom Rust Nanochip Inc Box 13249 Oakland, CA 94661 (510) 339-6263 (510) 339-9636 FAX http://www.nanochip.com RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
