Greetings,

44 HL contestants have signed up to pay tribute to Dave Thornburg, February
4th, Friday, preceding the two day Southwest Classic. I have the latest
entry list and others appear on my website and Mark Miller's fabulous Old
Buzzard's Sunbird Classic site.
http://www1.minn.net/~crabcake/sunbird/index.html

The Sunbird arfs have finally been shipped and now I can get down to
building one for myself plus a Lil Bird 2. The finished weight of the
Sunbird, covered with the controls hooked up, but no r/c has been 5.5oz.
It has a lot of wing area, so the "in air" wing loading is going to come
out very low.

Bob Massman from Ohio will score and fly both events. I have had offers
from helpers as far away as Hawaii. Three people not attending that I will
really miss are Chris Adams (flew in Dave's original HL contest) Paul Clark
of Japan and my HL flying buddy Paul Sherman of Michigan, you guys belong
in this one.

Bob has agreed to take on field entries in the few remaining frequencies,
but we are going to have a pilots meeting at 9am and promptly start flying
the Sunbird contest at 10am due to limited time.

I need the following items for the contest. Four traffic cones to mark the
field boundaries, a very loud horn to notify start and finish of the
rounds, a PA system, an awning tent, table and chair for Bob. Since this
is a one frequency per entry contest we won't need to impound the TX's. I
need John Roe (contestant) or someone to video this event. I'll be taking
a lot of photos for print coverage, I wonder if Dave is going to wear his
famous black hat? Please e-mail me if you can help with these items. TIA.

One thing this 44 entry contest proves to me is that the organized
leagues,ie., OVSS and MSL here in the Midwest, could set up all their
contests on a one entry per frequency and save a lot of time and hassle.
Man on Man becomes a breeze. Put me down on Ch 56.

Enjoy,

Ray
