It's amazing to me that the manufacturers sometimes don't think
through the mounting of their servos very well.
JR, for example, does not offer any way to mount their servos in
wings. Mounting a Volz Wing Maxx is an exercise in frustration.
Here's my rundown:
JR DS/368 + Greening servoframes. Generally works well, but there
are problems. First, on the 368, tightening the servo can warp the
frame, so you must be sure to affix the servo to the frame before
gluing in place. No big deal, really. But the Greening frame adds
around 1/32" thickness to the assembly. You have to grind down the
frame to get it to be flush with the servo, which (might?) affect
strength. Also, the little brackets that clamp down onto the DS368
lugs can cause your servo cover to bulge if space is tight.
JR DS168 + Greening servoframes. A fine combination, but I wish there
was more frame for the glue to grab onto.
Volz MicroMaxx + Volz servoframe. Excellent! Mounts very flush.
Does not increase thickness. Screw head is low, as the vertical lugs
are midway on the servo case. Very, very nice.
Volz WingMaxx. A really, really wonderful wing servo hobbled by a
truly Byzantine mounting system. You snap the servo into a plastic
frame and fasten with tiny little grub screws the size of a grain of
sand. You have to grind away part of the frame to allow full travel
(as in flap applications). The grub screws keep falling out and
getting lost. Worst of all, you have to build a frame to go around
this awful plastic frame!! What I'd love to see is something along
the lines of the Greening servoframe for the DS168/HS5125. The
WingMaxx should have lugs ON THE CASE ITSELF, along with an optional
servoframe that can be glued directly into the wing.
That said, the Wing Maxx HP is so good, that it's worth the trouble.
I only wish Mr. Volz would improve the case with some lugs and offer
a proper servoframe.

I have been looking for this servo for a very long time and got to
look closely at one at a dealer just a short while ago.
What made me leave it there was
1) It is a bit difficult to mount (even with two different mounts
in the box)
2) The servo horn was strange and I am not sure it will hold up for
F3X planes. It is split and hold together by one small screw
3) The total travel is very little. If I remember right it was only
60 degrees.
4) The dealer did not recommend it ;-(
I will outfit my Supra and Pike Perfect with proven Volz instead.
And driven by a JR radio... (now that was a bit commercial...
sorry ;-)

Hitec / Multiplex has a new servo of interest.....Glen Merritt is
very
helpful....their customer service is great.....but please......some
uniformity in servo specs.....PLEASE! Website lists transit time for
only 40 degrees of travel....industry standard is 60
degrees.....torque
is usually listed for 4.8 and 6.0 volts....but they only specify on
their website the 6.0 voltage torque measured.....not good....and
almost
no trouble for a company like this to list both figures....not to
mention that many more users will use a 4 cell rather than a 5 cell
pack......so do the specifications right.....PLEASE!

Man, I guess those numbers WERE too good to be true!
Nevertheless, if anyone has had experience with the Multiplex Slim
Star,
I'd
love to hear your feedback.

Nice.

Those numbers on Tower's site looks like holding torque.
