Subject: [RCSE] Slope Soaring in Spokane...

Your best bet would be to check with members of the IESS (Inland Empire Soaring Society)
http://www.inlandempiresoaring.org/

and see if anyone is familiar with the location you've found. Chances are they have considered it at some point. (It may even be one of their known spots.) Check the web site and you can get more contact information.

And as for when the soaring season begins....it starts this weekend....at least for the NorthWest Soaring Society, with the 'Tune-up' event up in Mission, BC. See the NWSS web site for more information ( http://www.aracnet.com/~eastwind/nwss/ ).

On a more local note, the first contest in the Spokane area would be the "Orrin-Crooks Memorial" soaring competition down in Lewiston, ID (about 100 miles from Spokane) May 13/14, then the "Ed Huffman Soaring Classic" at Farragut State Park (by Athol, ID ... about 30-40 miles north Coeur d'Alene....probably about a 45 minute drive for you, I would guess. That's over the Memorial Day weekend. Fly for a couple days, then go camping...if you can find a spot!
