With the help of Mike Franz at Kontronics, I figured out the problem. Mike
sent me an email with the instructions and after reading them, I still had
nothing...until I realized that this unit requires a separate battery, i.e.
it didn't have a BEC circuit!

Long story short, I connected the ESC/motor to the RX, plugged in a motor
battery, plugged in an RX battery and the beeps started happening! Now
everything is fine. I had disconnected the external BEC for the initial
tests and the motor is fine. I then hooked up the BEC again and everything
works. I'm a happy camper now.

Thanks everyone for your comments. gv
