Its a very smart and simple device actually.  Those of you who have  
Picolarios know that voltages can fluctuate significantly in full house  
sailplanes, 
this cap keeps things on the straight and narrow.

Pretty cheap assurance actually ;-)

 I did
get, and use, a little capacitor type thing  that Todds
Models has on his web site. If these 2.4 systems get a
spike in  current use, the receiver can shut down and
take a few seconds to reconnect.  This capacitor thingy
solves that problem - so far so good
