Thanks for posting the tribute. Dick started in model gliders and airplanes before he learned to fly gliders. For a little step back in history, he won the 1937 California State Hand-Launched Model Glider Championship. The attachment is a picture of Dick and his mother from that time period. The following year, at age 15, he taught himself to fly full-size in primary glider.
