I can assure you guys that servos had little to do with final positions at
the worlds. The top fifteen places were determined by who could fly to the
slope 3/4's of a mile away , slope for 8 minutes and then run the gauntlet of
sink back to the field. Some made it ,some of us suffered from off field
landings.Oh yea I forgot the fun part it was over a 100 degrees, there was a
forest fire 4 miles up wind partially obscuring the sky and the wind was
pushing FAI maximums. After 3 days of real thermal soring it came down to
ridge running. Michael was at Corfu and had his booth setup to sell servos.
We had some problems with Paul Griebenow's models and had to have some of his
Blue servos in and out several times. TM Ben Clerx put 2 of his own servos in
Paul's planes and the rest of them were replaced by Michael. To be fair there
is little difference between major servos, for you servos snobs, there were
Hitech's on the field as well. Besides Paul, I think that the rest of the US
Team used Multiplex Micro Digitals. Chris and I had zero problems and never
had to repair a model. My experience with both blue and red has shown that
Blue servos can drift with Temperature. Some of my red servos from last
summer developed rock. The real difference between the servos in the US is
that Multiplex has a bonafide Dealer Network and a service facility. Volz has
a good product but he likes to attend large gatherings and sell his servos to
cover his travels. Often times he sells servos at a lower price than he gives
his dealers here in the US. While at the WC Michael approached one of the US
guys to become his rep and setup a service center. As I see it Volz will have
a tough time in the American Market until he appreciates the needs of the
American consumer. Karlton on the other hand has done a great job of support
and promotion for his products. I appreciate the fact that I can call Karlton
and have my parts on the way. Buy what you like, but my glider will have red
servos in them until MPX goes to another color. Thank you Karlton from a
satisfied MPX flyer. Larry Jolly
