I am ready to put some paint on my Colibri. I have been flying it around for the past couple of weeks and find I really need to get some color onto it to help me keep track of it while in flight. I understand that I should keep a dark color on the underside and some bright color on the top. I ran off to Fred Myer and picked up some Krylon hobby paint. Two small cans one flat black enamel and on glow orange lacquer. I was thinking of painting the outer 1/3 of each wing with the flat black and the vtail (all sides) with the orange, leaving the top of the wings unpainted. I already have 3 light coats of minwax polycrylic on the wings and vtail. The wings are black poplar over foam and the tail is balsa. I plan to put one more light coat of the polycrylic on after the paint. Does this sound like a good plan? I want to keep the weight added by painting down to a minimum, so that is why the tops of the wings are staying natural and I only plan to pain the outer 1/3rd of each wing. Any hints on how to mask off the parts of the wings I wish to keep natural? How many coats of paint should I use? Should I paint the whole vtail orange? Did I get the right paint?
