Hey Kristopher,

I bought the 4 axis kit with the timer kit to use with the french software
on CNCnet.
Here is the link: http://www.teaser.fr/~abrea/cncnet/cnc_pres.phtml

I assembled the kit and tested it but I have not built my machine yet. I
acquired most of my linear motion equipment on Ebay and from my work. I
have not built my machine yet since I ended up getting laid off right when I
was ready to have machine parts made. I also need to redesign my machine
anyway to incorporate better bearings that I got from my previous job when
they closed down. I agree with Mike in that you MUST keep the slop in the
mechanics to a minimum. All the resolution in the world means nothing if
you have a ton of slop in your stages. The best way to avoid this is to use
a precision rolled leadscrew and an antibacklash Turcite lead nut. This
setup preloads the nut with a spring to the screw so there is no backlash.
You only need these on the horizontal stages as gravity will do the same
thing (preload) on the vertical stages. For the vertical stages just by a
standard turcite nut. You can buy the leadscrews in a 3foot or 6 foot
length and nuts from Mcmastercarr (http://www.mcmaster.com/). you can
choose alloy steel rather than stainless and save some money on the screws.
There are other places to buy the componets, but Mcmaster has just about
everything and there prices are just a bit more than you would pay from the
manufacturer. The leadscrews come in many diameters and leads. I will be
using a 3/8-10 coupled to 200 step/rev motors on half step. The resulting
resolution (in a perfect world) will be .00025" per motor count. The
problem is that there is always slop and inaccuracies so I should be able to
resolve to around .001" which is more than fine for foam cutting.

Here is another good link for the leadscrews:http://www.ballscrews.com/

Hope this breeds life to your project.
