Pat,

I know the answer to this, it's because there are more
birds on the one side than the other.  

A few weeks ago I was fly electrics with a Master
Falconer and he asked if I knew why the V was longer
on one side than the other.  I thought he was being
serious then he blasted me with that answer.  I asked
him if he could tell the difference between two birds.
 (niether were in the air, the international sign :D )
