I saw some references to joiners on this thread and
thought I'd wade in a bit. I have been using 4130
steel tubing for my large model joiners. My 13 foot
RES ship stalled a good winch in Dallas with a tubing
joiner...of course it was .5 dia with .120 wall
thickness. I got some 7/16 with .120 wall recently for
my Legionair project, and it has stood up well, too.
It has to be cleaned up a bit when you get it, but a
lathe or drill press and some fine emery or crocus
cloth and it polishes right up...from Aircraft Spruce
and Specialty. The 7/16 stuff has already been
tortured pretty well, with 1400 sq. in. pulling
against it, if it hasn't bent, it ain't gonna. I'm
thinking of getting some thinner wall stuff for less
windy days, to lower my wing loading. Maybe that info
will help someone else......my best to you all.
