Patrick,

Having lived in Pacific Palisades we used to fly at the end of the cliffs on
El Medio which is the north side of Temescal Canyon road that intersects the
Pacfic Coast highway (1) just a few miles north of Santa Monica. Nowadays
the flyers use the slope point at the end of Via De La Paz which is on the
south side of Temescal Canyon Road.

To get there from Bev Hills, take Sunset Blvd west through Bel Aire and
about 3/4 of the way through the small town of Pacific Palisades. You will
makes a left turn onto Via de la Paz and head toward the water . Go to the
end of Via de la Paz and you will come to a small fence. You can park and
walk further with you plane along the edge of the cliff to the point and fly
from there, on the right.

To get there via freeways, take Santa Monica Freeway West to the coast
highway. Transition to the coast hoghway going north. You will go north
about 3 signal lights then hit Temescal Canyon road. Go up the very long
sloping up road to Sunset (second light, T-intersection), turn right to go
to the town, then turn right at the first Light which is Via de La Paz.
Follow the directions as per the above..

If in doubt, when facing the water going down temsecal the flying sight is
to the left on the south side.

BTW, I did my 8 hour lsf 5 slope flight on the north side of the slope ovewr
the trailer park on El Medio in 1975, and crewed for many more who did
theirs at the same spot also.

Good Flying,
Chris Adams
(now in Reno NV)
