The battery connections are not as critcal as the motor connections, particularly with brushless motors. As long as you use a large gauge wire on the battery leads, you can lengthen them wiout worry. A brushless ESC has to "ring" the windings to determine timing and rotation direction, hence the motor connections have to be kept sort. Brushed motors don't have this problem.
