Glad to hear that John is stil with us and is getting back into soaring.
The last time I saw John was at the 1985 Great Race. Dan Pruss, John, and
I discussed having the SOAR club hold an invitational contest in 1986 in
rememberance of the last SOAR Nats. It would be by invitation only for
anyone who flew in any of the six SOAR Nats. Only sailplane designs that
had actually flown in one of the SOAR Nats could be flown although the
contestant would not have to fly the design he flew in the SOAR Nats. Both
Dan and John though that it was a good idea and was planning to take it up
with the SOAR club. Not long after, Dan found that he had cancer and
nothing ever came of the invitational contest.
