sounds vaguely like something that happened to my dad. came back from a mission to Berlin in march of '44. had lost fuel and two engines due to fighter attacks, and was landing at the first English field he saw. had clearance from tower. at about 20 feet altitude the last two engines sputtered to a stop -- no fuel. at the same moment, a C47 landed on the crossing runway. pop pulled the B17 (now a really BIG glider--bad L/D) back into the air. the C47 rolled under him, he compensated for the tip-stall by banking and re-landed the 17 and rolled it out across the grass. They just about had to carry him out of the cockpit. The commanding general of the air-wing walked out of the officer's club as he hit the ground the first time and saw the whole thing. DFC on the spot. Dana
