Take a look at the Lil' Bird 2 that Ray Hayes sells at Skybench Aerotech. It's a well designed, all wood bird that uses laser cut materials. Can be fragile in beginner hands, but so can any wood HLG. Ray is a (the?) driving force behind wood crafted sailplanes. (http://www.skybench.com/)
