To expand on the previous answer given, these receivers are `tuned' to
give best results in the band of frequencies given. If you put in a
crystal for say 72.860 or so, it would probably still work, though
you'd probably have reduced range.

I don't know if this means that the `high band' and `low band'
receivers have slightly different components, or if they've just
adjusted them a bit differently. In any event, it's probably best to
stick within the range of frequencies listed.

| I've seen that Great Planes ElectriFly Rx's split the frequency band
| into two parts "Tuned to either Low band (11-35) or High band

| the shift of the Tx.

Totally different things. The positive or negative shift has nothing
to do with `high' or `low' part of the 72 mHz band.

| My question is: do the current crop of JR Rx's split the R/C
| frequency band in parts as does Mr. Wales JR NER-627XZ 7 channel PCM
| receiver?

Don't know. I know Futaba seems to do it now with most of their
receivers, but I don't know about JR.

Though I'm a bit surprised that Great Planes is doing automatic shift
selection, since I believe they're pretty much in bed with Tower and
Futaba ...

| Also do any of them select the proper shift of the Tx in use?

I doubt it. JR and Futaba are the `leaders' in the market, and they
don't seem to see much value in making their equipment work with each
other. The smaller players -- Hitec, Airtronics, GWS, etc -- do see
the benefit, and often make equipment that can work with either
positive or negative shift.

(Which is one good reason to avoid Futaba and JR, and buy the other
guy's stuff.)
