ever-shrinking fields and reduced access to the great wide open spaces of our
youth, if anything, the Big Plane Craze is probably the one that will lapse as
impractical,
With the advances in radio sizes, batteries and e-power, you can have
an electric powered glider for the same weight as a standard
non powered glider of a few years ago, I think this will lead to
a larger class of e-powered gliders that will be able to do LMR launches
and contest formats from much smaller fields since you won't need to
stretch anything out to launch.
I would wager a guess that these planes may be in the 2m range or slightly
larger and that the flying will be done closer in due to the smaller field sizes.
Larger planes are great, but it doesn't seem like I get to fly them as much......
