Thanks for all the ideas. I pulled out the monokote iron and a dirty covering sock, and about 15 minutes later all the remaining covering was in little, burnt balls on the floor. I just kept going back and forth over the covering on fairly high heat; it would heat up, roll up, and fall off - very slick.
