Jim,

First documented aerotow: Germany, Spring 1927, according to research I did
a few years ago. They hadn't yet invented a release system - the glider
pilot manually released the tow rope - I think he just let go! Some famous
aviators like Peter Riedel were in this group of daring pilots.
