I'm hoping that Real Balls or some other ball/roller bearing end caps will
become available. In the meantime, a Torrington B-1010 needle bearing will
very nicely replace the front bushing. (Thanks for the tip to Tim
McCann.) I should have this setup flying by next weekend, with any
luck. I'll post the results.

If you want to ruin your shaft in a short time you can use a needle roller
bearing but .....
I wouldn't as this type of bearing needs a hardened surface of 60-62 Rc to
run on.
The shaft is nowhere near as hard as this and will quickly wear into
longitudinal grooves.
A deep groove ball race on each end of the shaft is the only way to go but
it will need a
new or modified housing.
