(More...) http://bit.ly/13483jF STEC Shareholders Seek Takeover Of Company ---- Santa Ana-based solid state storage products firm STEC is facing a shareholder revolt this morning, after two of its largest shareholders, Balch Hill and Potomac Capital, said they will seek to replace the company's board and executives, and take "strategic steps" to improve shareholder value. The move comes after poor quarterly results for STEC. STEC said its settlement discussions with Balch Hill and Potomac Capital have "broken down". The two shareholders said that STEC's management team have presided over a "massive loss of revenue and market share" in a strongly growing market for solid state storage. MaxLinear Scores Design Win In Latin America ---- Carlsbad-based radio frequency chip designer MaxLinear reported a win in Latin America this morning. According to the company, its silicon tuner-demodulator device has been selected by an un-named OEM for use in a new, hybrid satellite plus terrestrial set-top box for the Latin America pay TV market. Financial impact of the deal and expected shipment volumes were not disclosed. MaxLinear said pay TV operators in Latina America have been integrating both broadcast television receivers and satellite set-top-boxes to allow customers to receive both free, local high definition channels as well as satellite broadcasts. Vitesse Takes On Network Encryption ---- Camarillo-based networking semiconductor developer Vitesse Semiconductor announced a new product today, aimed at encryption of network layer traffic. According to the firm, its new Intellisec product is a "lightweight" security encryption technology aimed at encrypting data over the network. The firm said the new products are aimed at securing network applications such as e-commerce, cloud services, enterprise, and government communications. The new chips support the IEEE 802.1AE MACsec standard for encyrptyion over a network. Belkin Completes Linksys Buy ---- Network router and wireless equipment provider Linksys, which has been part of Cisco since 2003, is now back in Southern California hands, after Playa Vista-based computer accessory maker Belkin said Friday it has completed its acquisition of the company. Belkin said it will manage and maintain Linksys as a separate brand and product portfolio. Belkin said it will continue to bring new Linksys products to market in the near future. Cisco and Belkin agreed to the sale in January. Linksys was started in Irvine by Janie and Victor Tsao in 1988. The firm became a part of Cisco in 2003. GonnaBe Helps Users Plan Social Events, Activities ---- If you're a mobile user, what's the best way to help plan out your busy weekend and social life? Los Angeles-based GonnaBe, the startup headed by Hank Leber, rolled out its platform last week week, releasing a new iPhone application which the startup says acts as the "crystal ball for your social life." The shutdown is not a surprise; Lockerz laid off all of its San Diego office in January. That office had been acquired when Lockerz bought Plixi in January of 2011. Plixi had, as TweetPhoto, developed a service to let users share their photos on Twitter--something which has since been swallowed up into Twitter itself. StyleHaul Gets $6.5M More For YouTube Fashion Channel ---- In the "recent fundings we've missed" category, Los Angeles-based YouTube network StyleHaul quietly raised $6.5M in a Series B funding led by Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, along with its prior investors. StyleHaul's prior investors include Juvo Capital, RezVen Partners, Siemer Ventures, and Machinima's Allen DeBevoise. Microsoft announced the latest version of Vyclone's collaborative, web video editing software, saying that the tool "truly comes to life" with IE10. The tool actually works with any HTML5-capable browser. Vyclone's video editing tools let users easily synchronize multiple videos of an event and edit multiple views of that event into a single video.
