Hi everyone. I'm having a weird wireless problem and
was hoping that someone might be able to point me in
the right direction.
The equipment: Dell inspiron 600m (Intel Pro 2100)
with Windows XP, Linksys 802.11b Wireless Router
The problem: Windows XP says that wireless networks
are available, identifies the correct network on the
router, but after getting the WEP key, nothing
happens. It says again that wireless networks are
available and keeps repeating the same thing.
Other clues:
1. Have tried both no WEP, 64-bit, and 128-bit WEP
keys to the same effect.
2. Laptop cannot ping the wireless router
(192.168.1.1): "Destination unreachable"
3. Laptop works with the ethernet cable plugged in
(sad to say)
4. Have already tried powering down and powering back
up both the router and the laptop a few times (tech
support's favorite suggestion.)
If you have any clues or ideas I'd greatly appreciate
it. Based on the clues so far, I'm not really sure
what is broken--the router, the laptop,
configurations?
Thanks in advance,
Si Chen
