Wow, I never knew that, and I have actually installed Mepis for a school. I'll have to check that out. Maybe I should switch away from Linspire. They have such good device detection and can play lots of different media formats, including Windows media, etc. Plus they have a very very good, tight, robust community.

Mephis and Linspire are both using the same basic technology -- apt-get -- for software installation. They're both Debian-based.


Other Debian-based distros include Ubantu, Progeny Debian, UserLinux and Libranet. All have a slightly different emphasis, but all are worth looking at while you're exploring.

For that matter, if you use the new Debian-installer (just search for it; it's not yet officially part of Debian), Debian itself is worth looking at.
