Hi guys,

Those of you who love the Creative Commons (Christian!) may like hearing about
Magnatune. This is a small record label that tries to treat both musicians and
customers fairly.

You can download all the music, for free, under a Creative Commons license
(Attribution NonCommercial ShareAlike). If you like it, you can pay for a
higher
quality version. If you want to use it for commercial purposes, you can get a
commercial license. But notice, you still get to sample the music before paying
for it. So you can include the music in your work from the beginning. And if at
the end of the project you still want it, you can buy it then.

They let musicians get a 50% of the sales profit. I understand that's pretty
unusual. I hope they do well.

There's an interview at CC:

The Wikipedia article is nice too:

And of course, the company website:

I like their logo. It says "we're not evil". Their motto says "Internet Music
Without the Guilt".

I like these guys. It looks like they're trying to find an honest business
model,
which is not centered around treating the user like a pirate. Better yet, it's
a
model based around open content. It just feels good.

I don't listen to much music. But if I ever start, I'll get it from these guys.
After all, with these guys I get to hear the music before buy it.

Cheers,
Daniel.
