I do not buy that new gizmo, an alarm clock, digital clock, radio,
telephone, intercom, digital recorder etc. Why? too many things in
one box. If one goes, then the whole box is useless.
That's *your* opinion, though. A whole lot of people disagree with
you. Look at the booming market for picture-taking, PDA, MP3-playing,
video game-playing, flash-drive-storing, cell phones with internet
access and TXT messenging... Or the video game consoles with PDA stuff,
(ala PSP, Nintendo DS) - or the plethora of digital alarm clock
CD-playing stereo phones - or the Fax, Scan, Copy, Printers.... I could
go on and on. They sell microwaves with toasters and coffeemakers in
them.... They wouldn't keep making them if they didn't sale. The only
point of an office *SUITE* is to have a plethora of tools for you.
Otherwise, just grab AbiWord or whatever "one-tool-for-one-job" thing
you want/need.
Not that I entirely disagree, but it is difficult to find single
products now a days. When I bought my new cell phone at Christmas, I
basically had to have a crappy digital camera on it. It is tough to buy
one that is good without it.
Maybe this is market forces driving things, but just because they are
out there doesn't mean people want them.
