What's a "MacGuffin"? I'd love to know the story behind that. From contextual gleaning, I agree about "The Force" ... I think.

It's a term usually associated with Alfred Hitchcock and his storytelling, though it might have come into existence before him. It more or less points to a plot device which seems quite important to the movie and that most important characters are involved with, but which when you look at it closely, has not much to do with the actual point or story being told. It's kind of a cinematic misdirection to keep the audience focused on the wrong story element to better surprise it with what it's all really about. At least that's my understanding of it, I might get corrected.

In the SW sense, one could say the force concept, while present all over the place, is actually not the main story interest, which would be (depending on your opinion on the saga) either the Skywalker family drama or the sale of action figures of exploding computer generated images ;-)
