New Times runs Mohammed cartoons

Today, alternative weekly New Times becomes one of the first North American newspapers to run the controversial Mohammed cartoons, first published in the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten.

You can see two of them here on the New Times website (they'll flash on the screen on the right hand side). They appear with a feature on Deedra Aboud, director of the Arizona chapter of the Muslim American Society's Freedom Foundation.

New Times follows The Philadelphia Inquirer and Denver's Rocky Mountain News, which earlier published the cartoons.

The decision to publish lit up Valley talk radio early, with KFYI's Bruce Jacobs doing a riff on the end of Phoenix as we know it and the big target that must be painted on the Phoenix weekly.

"Oh boy. All I can say is … I would stay far away from the New Times building. Far away. Far away."

let's see ... the New Times will stand up to those who would suppress freedom of _expression_ and speech in the face of terrorist threats and Bruce Jacobs would cave in to the terrorists.

let's see...the New Times wants to raise their advertisement fees so it pityfully publishes a cartoon in an attempt to expand it's readership. Geuss what? Not many people take the New Times all that seriously, it occassionally has articles of literary value but not all that consistantly. I'm with Jacob's, why incite the terrorists?

God forbid we should incite the terrorists. Uhhmmm. Like they aren't damned riled anyway? As for just plain Muslims. I never knew much about them. But based on their reactions throughtout Muslimland over these cartoons, I don't really think I want to know anything more about them.

Boy after looking at those cartoons,as a cathlic ive seen a lot worse printed about Christ,,i should be out burning and killing now
