Please believe me when I say that I, founder of the now defunct PubSub.com,
completely understand that it is "all just pubsub" -- except the parts that
aren't (like search...).

In any case, simply recognizing that all sorts of user interfaces can be put
on the same base set of PubSub capabilities makes me worry that if we don't
get the underlying protocol well established soon, we'll end up seeing the
"interfaces" drift far from what can reasonably be smoothed out with UI
code.

This would argue for setting the expectation that users are identified by a
JID rather than the current practice which is to identify users by the
address of their syndication feeds or their local names. Thus, in message
content, you should expect to identify me as something like
[EMAIL PROTECTED] but not as "http://identi.ca/bobwyman"; or even @bobwyman:
identi.ca (something I've seen lately...) If we expect this to be the case,
shouldn't we be lobbying the developers of identi.ca, twitter, etc. to start
supporting this convention?
