Indeed, here's a difference between my working version on the laptop and my not-working version on the desktop pc. On the desktop pc, I get $ lsmod | grep can pcan 54152 0 pcmcia 44748 1 pcan parport 42220 4 pcan,lp,ppdev,parport_pc while on the laptop, as on your machine, I get $ lsmod | grep can can_bcm 22148 0 can_raw 15232 0 can 32540 2 can_bcm,can_raw pcan 54152 0 parport 42220 3 pcan, ppdev,lp pcmcia 44748 1 pcan With this pointer I've just investigated that symptom and, well. Now it works. I realized that I must have forgotten the 'sudo' when copying the *.ko-files to /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/socketcan and I had no according can-raw (and friends) modules available. I fixed that and socketcan works now on both machines. Thank you.
