I've got a number of soekris 4801s (and now some 5501s) that
I'm using for vpn devices. They are all running FreeBSD 6.2
for the OS, and I'm using OpenVPN to handle the vpn side of
things. (I tried using IPSec, but I couldn't make it work for
me since several of the vpn clients have dynamic IP addresses).

My question is whether adding the vpn1411 encryption card will
help increase my throughput. The page for the vpn1411 card
mentions that it is supported in FreeBSD, but I'm not sure if
I would need to do something specific in OpenVPN to make it
use the accelerator card, or if I would need to fight with
IPSec some more and see if I can make it work how I need. Does
anyone have some experience in this?

I've searched the mailing list archives and I've seen several
folks having issues with the vpn1411 card and getting "Corrupted
MAC on input" errors with any kind of usermode encryption, which
OpenVPN uses. It makes me a bit nervous to invest in these cards
because I do not see any reports of these working successfully in
that manner.

Can someone give me an answer as to what is the status of the
vpn1411 cards right now?

Thanks a bunch

Mark
