Hi,

Søren, I hope you are reading this...

Since Soekris net5501 is usually run headless, the only "GUI" is the
LED's - in particular the Error LED.
I would like to see the following "end user experience":
1) When the Soekris is booted up, the Error LED is steady red during
POST (just as it is now).
2) When Soekris is then checking memory etc, the Error LED should be
repeatedly flashing some pattern (such as ---*---*---*)
If booting fails, the Error LED should go back to steady red.
3) Just before handing over to the OS/bootloader, the Error LED should
be repeatedly flashing some other pattern (such as ---*-*---*-*---*-*)
4) When the OS is booting, it could change the pattern to e.g.
---*-*-*---*-*-*---*-*-*
5) If the OS boots up and all is good it could turn off the LED, if not
it could change the pattern to e.g. -*-*-*-*-*

In FreeBSD the Error LED can be controlled through /dev/led/error, but
this is obviously only possible for step 4 and 5 (due to the different
loader stages, in fact only some way into step 4, but nevermind).

However, steps 2 and 3 need changes to the Soekris BIOS.

So, I would like to suggest that an extra "set" option is added to the
Soekirs net5501 BIOS to accomplish this.

/Henrik
