I will use it to control a camera for a multi-year time-lapse project.

I need something low power, solid state, and compact so that it will
fit in an outdoor enclosure, and can be remotely accessed, so the
soekris w/ linux fits the bill (if i can manage to get an OS
installed... setting up the net4801 went much more smoothly)
