Indeed, good progress happening here!

I also tested several USB keys, some with a memstick bootable image of
pfSense and again on the same keys with NanoBSD. One time I got one to
boot partially on the internal USB plug but not the external, and it
didn't boot all the way, and then when I tried it again it didn't work.
The keys I tried were USB 2.0 but were both a couple years old so it
could be they are to blame. I need to free up a more recent stick to try
again next week.

In most cases the BIOS skips past the drive even with 'boot 81' from the
monitor prompt.

I could consistently get a CF in a USB to CF adapter to start booting
either NanoBSD or a pfSense memstick image, however once it got to the
kernel spinner, it stopped for good.

Is there any additional debugging info that would be helpful to gather?

Jim
