I don't know. As you noticed, it happens after the machine has been running for a while and is circumvented by powering off for some time, so it looks like a kind of thermal failure. When the machine resets--whether by reboot from the operating system, reboot from comBIOS, pressing the reset switch, or issuing "reset" from the uManager--it doesn't come up again. Mine usually showed no output at all, but occasionally it would start to POST and hang then. One thought I had is that the reset circuit might be failing, but I have no idea how that is implemented on the net6501: old-school discrete circuitry, a dedicated reset IC, or as part of the Intel chipset? Back when the first batch of net5501s had a bad capacitor, Soekris Europe resoldered the correct component and returned the board.
