If your using vs2005 and xp you should not need that.. It looks more like you are using the express edition of mvsc 2005 and you don't have the platform sdk installed, or visual studio properly configured to use it. Also, as a side note, you don't need cygwin to run autogen.cmd, you just need a gawk.exe binary.
